REVIEW: ONLY FEET

ONLY FEET by writer/director Walter Wright is a dark erotic neo-noir thriller that shows some thinking outside the box storytelling ideas that I like to see out of an indie film.

It follows the fortunes of Jace (Chance Dawson) and Bella (Robin Covington) a couple of near down-and-outers that are living on a dwindling supply of money out of a fancy hotel.

Well, as luck(?) would have it, Jace stumbles into what seems to be an opportunity of a lifetime, posting feet pics on a site for increasingly large amounts of money. The catch? He doesn't let Bella in on the secret to their sudden windfall, which throws incredible amounts of stress onto the relationship, and of course the source of all of this money is not exactly who they appear to be.

Now this film was shot on a miniscule budget, and its limitations definitely show. The sound mix is fairly rough, with the score overpowering the dialogue in many places, and the cinematography is running up and down the quality scale, sometimes too dark, sometimes too gainy, sometimes out of focus. Performance-wise it's also a bit uneven, with Jace Dawson sometimes coming off a bit flat, and some of the supporting cast not performing up to snuff in my opinion.

As far as sex/nudity is concerned, for an erotic thriller, it's some pretty tame stuff, and there were probably a few too many love-scene montages that didn't add a ton to the story. They're in love, hey we get it!

However, all of that aside, this was an interesting concept that director Wright came up with, and threw in enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. The main setup for the story was not really what I was expecting at all, so huge points for that fact alone.

So while definitely not perfect, ONLY FEET showed a lot of raw ambition and promise. Next time out, with a little more technical savvy under his belt, and perhaps a slightly larger budget, I'd be curious to see what Walter Wright can conjure up.
