REVIEW: THE YELLOW BALLOON

THE YELLOW BALLOON: THE CURSE OF VINCENT VILE is a horror/comedy film written by Robert J. Carrera and Directed by Jason D. Morris that kind of plays like a mashup of EVIL DEAD 2 and TUCKER & DALE VS EVIL, with a dash of ATTACK OF THE KILLER TOMATOES thrown in for good measure.

The story opens with horror influencers Lisa (Timothy Waldron) and Amanda (Leah Bernard) up in an old cabin creating content when they are visited by Vincent Vile (Scott Somers) and his yellow balloon...familiar? Servant? Extension of his Being? In any event, things go bad for our content creators, and the scene switches to a restaurant where Mia (Justine Leverett) is getting dumped by boyfriend Seth (Konnor Heredia)

Naturally, this prompts Mia to gather up friends Harper (Shelby Broadnax) Travis (Robert J. Carerra) and Eli (Justin Jobe) and go up to - you guessed it - the same cabin that we saw at the begining of the film. There they encounter the sinister Rusty (Tony Sommers) and an encore performance from Ringmaster Vincent Vile.

What follows is a wild and wacky series of evil yellow balloon-filled madness, and not just one balloon, but a metric shitton of the things, most of which are filled with goo and none of which have our heroes best intentions in mind. Some of the humor lands, some of it doesn't, and there seems to be almost too many things going on at once, between the balloons, evil VCR tapes, possession, exploding penises, and balloon vaginal insertions!

The plot is a little murky, and some of the performances are a bit uneven, although Tony Sommers and Scott Somers are both very good standouts. But in the end, I don't think it matters because hell it's not a film meant to be taken too seriously, or to completely make sense, what with sentient evil balloons and exploding dicks and whatnot going on.

So if you're looking for some lighthearted, slightly grossed-out horror, you can't really go wrong with THE YELLOW BALLOON.
