REVIEW: WHAT I MEANT TO SAY WAS...

This is an Ultra-micro budget film by director Gary Whorley that was effectively made with a crew of two people, which is no mean feat for any filmmaker to pull off. The story starts with Michael (Steve Wandling) dying unexpectedly before he can finish a text to his girlfriend Lana (Zoe Scarborough) and then ending up in...Hell.

Or at least what passes for Hell in a micro-budget film, which is essentially the woods, a bar, and what appears to be an old school, all overlaid with a reddish-pink tint. Hey, you gotta get creative when you have zero budget!

Michael soon meets his Demon guide Chang (Gary Whorley) and Temporarily Damned Carmeletta (Jae Grace) who take him on a madcap tour of the Hell Realms on a quest to find a cell phone so he can finish his text to Lana, who is an aspiring musician.

The whole thing kind of culminates when they meet with who passes for the Devil in this afterlife, Horny (Sheri Davis) in all of her boobtastic splendor!

Look, this film is definitely raw and rough around the edges, and it's not going to be for everyone. The cinematography and editing certainly lacked polish, and my biggest complaint was the audio, which to be generous was spectacularly bad. I think Chang may have had some really hilarious lines, but I couldn't make most of them out. However, the film has a good heart at its center, and a decent little romance story told in flashback between Michael and Lana. Plus I think both Steve Wandling and Gary Whorley gave commendable performances.

Anyway, this is low, low, low budget stuff made with almost zero crew, so I gotta cut the filmmakers some slack. WHAT I MEANT TO SAY WAS... is less horror and more romantic comedy, but definitely fun if you're in the right frame of mind for it. Plus the end credits cram in a bunch of horror celebs, so that in itself is a good time!
